Value-Driven Multi-Class Overload Management in Real-Time Database Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
In complex real-time applications, real-time systems handle significant amounts of information that must be managed efficiently, motivating the need for incorporating realtime database management into real-time systems. However, resource management in realtime database systems is a complex issue. Since these systems often operate in environments of imminent and transient overloads, efficient overload handling is crucial to the performance of a real-time database system.

Value-Driven Multi-Class Overload Management
While it is imperative that all time constraints are met in hard real-time systems, firm or soft real-time systems do not have as stringent timeliness requirements, allowing for some degree of tardiness (soft) or miss ratio (firm). A significant body of research within the soft and firm real-time area has focused on minimizing tardiness and/or miss ratio, but without quantifying acceptable leve...

Alejandro Buchmann, TH Darmstadt Timeliness of execution is part of the correctness criterion in a variety of application domains, such as air-traffic control, CIM, or network control. To achieve real-time behavior in a DBMS it is necessary to develop new approaches to transaction scheduling, to the analysis of a transaction’s execution time, the interplay between the DBMS and the (real-time) o...

Real-Time Database Systems (RTDBSs), have attracted considerable amount of research attention in the recent past and a number of important applications have been identi ed for such systems, such as telecommunications network management, automated air tra c control, automated nancial trading, process control and military command and control systems. Due to the rapidity of change of the system st...

than traditional real-time scheduling in the sense that certain aspects of transactions may not integrate well with real-time scheduling. This paper introduces a dynamic admission control and parametrable priority based scheduling algorithm called H/M/L. It is based on the transaction importance, an attribute given by the programmer. We consider a multi-class transaction workload consisting of ...
متن کاملValue-cognizant admission control for RTDB systems
Admission control and overload management techniques are central to the design and implementation of Real-Time Database Systems. In this paper, we motivate the need for these mechanisms and present protocols for adding such capabilities to Real-Time Databases. In particular , we present a novel admission control paradigm, we describe a number of admission control strategies and contrast (throug...
